Hatice Kandemir, founder of Mâvee Interiors

The designer behind Mâvee

I spent eighteen years as an automotive engineer with Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, Smart, Overfinch and McLaren, taking each project through set stages, with every detail settled before anything was built. Designing a home works the same way, and being guided through it is what lets you enjoy it.

As in automotive design, I work from the inside out: the people come first, and the space is shaped around them. In your home, that means starting with you and how you live, then shaping each room around that, so it isn't only beautiful to look at, but easy and comfortable to live in every day.

My instinct for detail started much earlier. Growing up in Germany, I spent hours in my father's carpentry workshop, and among the fabric offcuts from my mother's dressmaking. Between the two, I learned that fit and finish are everything, and that anything worth making is made to last.

Retraining at KLC School of Design in London took me back to those roots: to craft, and to the feeling you get when something is done beautifully. Now I bring that, and everything the car industry taught me, to the rooms you come home to every day.

I named my studio Mâvee (mah-vee), after mâvi, the Turkish word for blue, as a nod to my Turkish roots. I chose blue because it’s widely associated with trust, stability and reliability, and that is how I want you to feel working with me.

The principle I carry into every homeA space must work before it can be beautiful.
